Alex: Hello everyone, and welcome back to ClearTalk English! I am Alex, and today is a wonderful day to learn together.
Emma: Hi everyone! I am Emma. The weather outside is sunny and warm, which gives me so much energy.
Alex: When the weather is this nice, I always want to be outside exploring the city.
Emma: Me too, Alex! And one of my favorite ways to travel around town is on a bicycle.
Alex: That is exactly what we are talking about today. Our topic is renting a city bike with simple phrases.
Emma: Renting a public bicycle is very popular in many big cities all around the world today.
Alex: It is fast, cheap, and very healthy for your body and the environment.
Emma: However, if you are visiting a new city, renting a bike can sometimes feel a bit confusing.
Alex: You might wonder how to pay, how to unlock the bike, or how to return it safely.
Emma: Yes! There are touch screens, phone apps, and lots of unfamiliar signs on the street.
Alex: Do not worry at all. Today, we will guide you step by step through the whole process.
Emma: We will share easy English phrases that you can use at any bike station.
Alex: By the end of this episode, you will feel completely confident renting a bicycle anywhere.
Emma: So sit back, relax, and let us start our easy ride into English vocabulary!
Alex: Let us begin with the very first step: finding a place where city bikes are parked.
Emma: In English, the special parking rack for public bicycles is called a docking station.
Alex: A docking station is a row of metal stands where bikes are locked securely until someone rents them.
Emma: You can usually find a docking station near subway stations, bus stops, and popular city parks.
Alex: If you cannot see one nearby, you can open a map app on your smartphone to find it.
Emma: Or you can ask a person on the street: Excuse me, where is the nearest docking station?
Alex: That is such a useful question to remember. Let us say it once more: Excuse me, where is the nearest docking station?
Emma: A friendly local might point down the street and say: There is one just around the corner.
Alex: Now, once you arrive at the docking station, you need to choose a bicycle.
Emma: Do not just take the first bike you see without checking it first!
Alex: That is a very smart tip, Emma. A quick safety check takes only twenty seconds.
Emma: First, you should check the tire pressure to see if the tires have enough air.
Alex: You can gently press your thumb into the rubber tire. It should feel firm, not soft or flat.
Emma: Next, squeeze the hand brakes on the handlebars to make sure they stop the wheels tightly.
Alex: If the tires are flat or the brakes feel loose, simply choose another bike from the rack.
Emma: After choosing a good bike, it is time to unlock it so you can ride.
