Alex: Hello everyone and welcome back to ClearTalk English!
Alex: I am your host Alex, and today we have a fantastic episode for you.
Emma: Hi everyone! I am Emma, your co-host, and I am super excited to be here.
Emma: Alex, how has your week been so far?
Alex: It has been great, Emma! But honestly, I am already thinking about the weekend.
Alex: That brings us right to our topic for today.
Emma: Yes! Today we are talking about making plans with friends.
Emma: Specifically, how to invite someone out, how to say yes happily, and how to politely say no.
Alex: Have you ever wanted to invite a friend to do something, but you were not sure what words to use?
Alex: Or maybe someone invited you somewhere, but you were already busy?
Emma: Saying no in a foreign language can feel scary sometimes.
Emma: You do not want to sound rude or hurt your friend's feelings.
Alex: Exactly! If you just say 'no', it might sound a bit cold or unfriendly.
Alex: So today, we will teach you natural, kind ways to say both yes and no.
Emma: We have simple patterns and wonderful phrases ready for you.
Emma: By the end of this episode, you will feel confident making plans with anyone in English.
Alex: Whether you want to go to the movies, grab coffee, or share a nice dinner, you will know exactly what to say.
Alex: So sit back, relax, and let us dive right into Act Two!
Emma: Let us start with the basics of making an invitation.
Emma: Alex, what is the most common question you ask when you want to hang out with a friend?
Alex: My favorite starting question is simply, 'Are you free?'
Alex: For example, 'Are you free this Saturday?' or 'Are you free tonight?'
Emma: That is such a useful phrase! 'Are you free?' means 'Do you have time?' or 'Are you busy?'
Emma: It is gentle because you check their schedule before you even give the invitation.
Alex: That is right. It lets the other person know you are thinking of spending time together.
Alex: Another common phrase is, 'Do you want to join us?' or just 'Would you like to join us?'
Emma: 'Join us' is such a friendly expression.
Emma: When you say 'join us', it means come along and participate with our group.
Alex: For example, you could say, 'We are going to eat pizza. Would you like to join us?'
Emma: Who could say no to pizza? That sounds wonderful.
