Alex: Hello and welcome to ClearTalk English! My name is Alex.
Emma: And I am Emma! We are so happy to have you with us today.
Alex: Today we are talking about a very fun and practical topic: clothes shopping!
Emma: Yes! Shopping for clothes in English can feel a little scary at first.
Alex: That is true. You have to ask for colors, sizes, and prices.
Emma: And sometimes you need to ask a store clerk for help.
Alex: Have you ever walked into a store in another country and felt lost, Emma?
Emma: Oh, definitely! I once bought a sweater that was way too big for me!
Alex: Why did you buy it if it was too big?
Emma: Because I did not know how to ask for a smaller size in English back then!
Alex: That happens to many English learners. But today, we will fix that.
Emma: In this episode, you will learn the exact phrases you need inside any clothing store.
Alex: You will learn how to ask for your size, how to find the dressing area, and how to check prices.
Emma: We will also roleplay a real store conversation so you can hear how it sounds.
Alex: So sit back, relax, and let us get started with the basics!
Emma: Let us begin with the first thing that happens when you walk into a store.
Alex: Usually, a friendly shop assistant walks up to you and says hello.
Emma: They often ask: 'Hello! Can I help you find anything today?'
Alex: Or they might say: 'Hi there! Are you looking for anything in particular?'
Emma: If you just want to look around by yourself, what should you say, Alex?
Alex: You can simply smile and say: 'I am just looking, thank you!'
Emma: That is a very polite and natural answer. Every store clerk understands that.
Alex: But what if you actually need something specific, like a winter jacket?
Emma: Then you can say: 'Yes, please. I am looking for a warm jacket.'
Alex: That brings us to our first key concept: clothing sizes!
Emma: In English-speaking countries, standard sizes are usually small, medium, large, and extra large.
Alex: Small is for smaller body frames. Large is for bigger frames.
Emma: And right in the middle, we have our key phrase: medium size.
Alex: Medium size means not too big and not too small. It is average.
Emma: You can ask the clerk: 'Do you have this jacket in a medium size?'
