Alex: Hello everyone and welcome to ClearTalk English!
Emma: We are so glad you are here with us today.
Alex: My name is Alex, and as always, I am joined by Emma.
Emma: Today we are talking about a very important topic for modern workers.
Alex: Yes, we are discussing ambition versus burnout at work.
Emma: Many people want to do great work and grow their career.
Alex: That is true ambition, and ambition is wonderful.
Emma: However, working too hard without rest can lead to serious exhaustion.
Alex: Exactly, and that deep exhaustion is what we call burnout.
Emma: Today we will learn how to set healthy boundaries at work.
Alex: You will learn useful English phrases to speak politely with your manager.
Emma: You will also learn how to protect your time and energy.
Alex: Whether you work in an office or work from home, this is for you.
Emma: So sit back, listen closely, and let us begin!
Alex: Emma, have you ever felt completely exhausted from working too much?
Emma: Oh, definitely! A few years ago, I worked seventy hours every single week.
Alex: Seventy hours in one week is an incredible amount of time.
Emma: I thought working all night proved that I was dedicated and ambitious.
Alex: That idea comes from what people call hustle culture.
Emma: Yes! Hustle culture tells us that we must work non-stop to be successful.
Alex: It says that sleep and rest are signs of weakness.
Emma: But that mindset is very harmful to your physical and mental health.
Alex: When you work without stopping, you create an unsustainable pace.
Emma: An unsustainable pace means a speed of working that you cannot continue for long.
Alex: Like running a very fast race that never ends.
Emma: Eventually, your body simply stops, and your mind feels completely empty.
Alex: That is when real burnout happens.
Emma: Burnout is not just feeling tired after a busy afternoon.
Alex: No, it is a chronic state of stress, emotional drain, and feeling helpless.
Emma: You wake up in the morning and you already feel tired.
